Japan, Not China, Is Now the Top Holder of US Treasury Debt

China's holdings of $1.22 trillion in U.S. Treasuries make it the No. 2 holder of U.S. debt, second to Japan. China had been the top foreign holder of U.S. Treasuries since 2008.
