Mar. 17, 2014— -- The force is definitely with Lupita Nyong'o.

Even before taking home the best supporting actress Oscar for "12 Years a Slave," the 31-year-old actress found herself in the mix for a number of high-profile roles. Nyong'o met with director J.J. Abrams just days before the Academy Awards about being cast as one of the female leads in "Star Wars: Episode VII," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Because of the secrecy surrounding the film, which is being produced by Disney, ABC News' parent company, it's unclear what role Nyong'o would play.

Her name also surfaced recently as a possibility for Tiger Lily in "Pan," but the role ultimately went to Rooney Mara.

But she is still in the running for a role in "The Whole Truth," a courtroom drama starring Daniel Craig, according to THR.

Award-winning writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie recently hinted at another possible project for Nyong'o, playing the lead character in Adichie's 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award-winning novel "Americanah."

The novel tells the story of Nigerian immigrant Ifemelu who comes to America on a college scholarship, while exploring the differences between being African in America and being African-American.

5 Things to Know about Lupita Nyong'o

It's an experience with which Nyong'o can identify. The Mexican-born, Kenyan-raised actress earned her undergraduate degree at Hampshire College Amherst, Mass., and received a master's degree from Yale School of Drama.

"I'm going to do the mysterious thing and say that Lupita might be making an announcement very soon," Adichie said with a coy smile in an interview with AriseEntertainment 360 posted online. "I don't know. That announcement might be about 'Americanah.'"
