National Gingerbread House Contest Winners

Dec. 21, 2004 -- -- "Good Morning America" showed off the winning entries from The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa's 12th annual gingerbread house competition. Check out the list of winning entries in the competition's various divisions:

Adult:

Grand Prize - Christina Banner, Newland, N.C.:
"Christmas Around the World" with Santa celebrating the holiday in the United States, England, Italy, France and the Czech Republic.

1st Place - Bobbie Jinright & Betsy Leigner, Troy, Ala.:
This entry shows the Grove Park Chapel. This is the highest finish for any entry from the state of Alabama.

2nd Place - Deni Cole, Weaverville, N.C.:
Cole is a long-time participant in The National Gingerbread House Competition. Her entry this year is the Chocolate Mountain Holiday Fair complete with a ferris wheel.

3rd Place - Trish Mccallister, Spartanburg, S.C.:
The 1996 and 1997 Grand Prize champion took only eight days to complete her Victorian home.

4th Place - Valarie Enters, Sanford, Fla.:
Enters comes to the resort each year for this national event and she places again in the top five with her Santa Village complete with railroad.

5th Place - Eric Blove & Beth Luce, East Flat Rock, N.C.:
This amazingly creative work shows a cutout from a German Chocolate wedding cake revealing a delightful gingerbread house.

Teen 13-17

1st Place - Sarah, Hannah & Chloe Engel, Bryson City, N.C.:
This Harry Potter inspired gingerbread house won first place in the Teen 13-17 age category.

2nd Place - Joey Summer, Gainesville, Ga.:
This entry shows a Christmas complete with a moonshine still for producing moonshine.

3rd Place - Julie Sarten, Lenoir City, Tenn.:
A Santa merry-go-round.

4th Place - Kate Mize, Halifax, Va.:
A gingerbread house with one side of the roof open so you can see all the detail inside.

Youth 12 & Under 1st Place - Angelique Arthur, Easley, S.C.:

Angelique's Tea House won the Youth 12 and under category this year. The entry highlights candy canes and a gingerbread man fence.

2nd Place - Riley & Ashley Tench, Durham, N.C.:
This entry is a replica of a historic landmark in the Greensboro, N.C.-area.

3rd Place Upper Enrichment Class, Petersburg, N.J.:
Kathy Cunningham's class from New Jersey has entered this event the last three years and they win another ribbon with a stylish plantation home.
