Couple goes viral after building stunning miniature home in quarantine
A married couple from Leewood, Kansas, have captured the world's attention with their quarantine hobby.
While some people have taken up knitting or cooking during the pandemic, Annie Kampfe and Cliff Donnelly have taken up miniature homebuilding — and now their creation has gone viral.
“I’ve done some remodeling work … I’m handy but I’ve never done anything like this,” Donnelly told "GMA."
This isn't your grandmother's dollhouse. It's a perfectly-scaled and expertly-crafted three-story, mid-century modern home that will make you wish you could live in it.
The final product, which the couple has dubbed "Mini Modern House," features 10 rooms of miniature and handmade craftsmanship, including electric wiring throughout.
Although the couple just finished the home, the project was actually two-and-a-half years in the making.
Kampfe said she came up with the idea in the fall of 2017 and the couple have slowly been building it ever since.
The home started from a kit she bought online, but the couple customized every inch of it themselves.
"It kind of reminded me of the home I grew up in that my parents built in Omaha, Nebraska," Kampfe said.
The retired interior designer and her husband were halfway through the process before the pandemic hit. Soon their project became a full-time quarantine hobby.
"It was just nice spending a lot of quality time with each other and building something from nothing," Cliff said, while Annie chimed in, "Like that sense of fruition that we both have and that we did it together."
The couple finished the home and added an entire basement level, complete with a functional garage door.
"There's just no way this house would be built without him and he would say there's no way the aesthetics would be what it is without me. We are such a good team," she said.
