Princess Eugenie reveals newborn daughter's name
Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, and Sarah Ferguson, formerly the Duchess of York, has revealed the name of her third child with husband Jack Brooksbank.
"We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank," Eugenie wrote in an Instagram post Monday. "Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts."
"Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home," she added.
Eugenie, 36, and the British royal family announced the arrival of Adelaide on social media two weeks ago. The baby was born Monday, Aug. 3, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, where the family lives part time, the royal family said at the time.
The new infant joins the couple's two sons, August Philip Hawke, 5, and Ernest George Ronnie, 3, who Eugenie said this week "are already the best big brothers."
In their initial announcements, the royal family and Eugenie shared a photo of the new baby, which was taken by Brooksbank, 40, according to the royal family. The image showed the newborn wearing a pink onesie with wings on the back, as well as a matching hat.
"Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces," the royal family's official birth announcement read. "Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news."
In the caption of her post, Eugenie wrote, "Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie."
Eugenie is a niece of King Charles III, Mountbatten-Windsor's older brother. Her daughter is 15th in line to the throne, while her sons are 13th and 14th.
Eugenie and Brooksbank, who married in October 2018, announced they were expecting their third child back in May. Eugenie shared a photo of August and Ernest holding a sonogram at the time, writing in the caption of an Instagram post, "Baby Brooksbank due 2026!"
Buckingham Palace said at the time that Charles was "delighted with the news."
Eugenie's father, Mountbatten-Windsor, was stripped of his royal titles and honors by Charles last year, after stepping back from royal public duties in 2019 over fallout from his relationship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
While Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice have retained their royal titles and their places in the line of succession, neither is a full-time working royal.
