Michael Phelps is a dad of 4: What to know about his family
Olympian Michael Phelps is a proud dad of four sons.
Phelps and his wife Nicole Phelps recently celebrated their youngest son Nico's first birthday with a race car-themed party, sharing a series of photos in a joint Instagram post on Jan. 19.
"And just like that… we have a 1 year old 🥰," Nicole Phelps captioned the post. "Happy Birthday Nico."
In August, the couple took Nico to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
In an Instagram post at that time, the 23-time Olympic gold medalist shared a carousel of photos of himself with his wife and Nico from their outings in Paris.
One photo showed the couple smiling while Nicole Phelps was seen holding Nico in her arms as he wore a tiny red beret.
Another photo showed the family posing for the camera together with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
"Baby's first rave," Michael Phelps captioned the photos.
In addition to Nico, the couple, who wed in 2016, are also parents to three older sons: Boomer, Beckett and Maverick.
Michael Phelps told People magazine in 2021 that he especially treasures dinnertime with his family.
"As a kid, I always wanted to have dinner as a family but with my parents separated, that didn't happen often," he said. "I love how we have dinner every night together at the same exact time."
As a parent, he also shared that he tries to help his sons learn how to communicate their feelings.
"They talk about their emotions," Michael Phelps told the outlet. "It gives me a lot of hope. I just want them to be as prepared as they can be."

Boomer Phelps
Boomer is the eldest of Michael and Nicole Phelps' kids.
He was born May 5, 2016.
A budding athlete, Boomer plays soccer and golf and got his start in the water as early as 2 months old, as his champion swimmer dad shared on Instagram back in July 2016.
Beckett Richard Phelps
Born on Feb. 12, 2018, Beckett is the second child of Michael and Nicole Phelps.
Beckett is a "lover of all animals," according to an Instagram post shared by Nicole Phelps on his fifth birthday.
Maverick Nicolas Phelps
Maverick was born on Sept. 9, 2019.
Nicole Phelps shared on Instagram at the time that Maverick, whom she lovingly refers to as "Mav" on social media, "instantly" stole all of their hearts.
Nico Michael Phelps
Michael Phelps announced the arrival of his fourth son in a joint Instagram post with his wife in January 2024.
"@mrs.nicolephelps and I wanna welcome Nico Michael Phelps to the world. Born on 1/16," Michael Phelps wrote alongside a photo of him holding Nico, as both he and his wife gaze down at the newborn.
"We're so blessed to be given a 4th child. We're now a family of 6! 😁😁🤪😂," he wrote.
To celebrate Nico's first birthday in January 2025, Michael Phelps and Nicole Phelps shared sweet family photos from the occasion, featuring Nico dressed as a race care driver.
"And just like that… we have a 1 year old 🥰 Happy Birthday Nico," the caption of the post read. "You love your brothers and your puppies, cottage cheese, blueberries and being outside. We’re grateful for your first lap of life together 🏎️🤍🖤."
