Who Are the 'Best New Artist' Grammy Nominees?

ByGood Morning America
February 07, 2013, 8:28 PM

Feb. 08, 2013— -- intro: Been living under a rock? Don't worry, we've got you. Here are the basics you need to know about these rising stars: Exactly who they are and why they are the best, no matter who wins.

quicklist: 1title: The Lumineerstext:They're that folky band who sing that "Ho Hey" song that plays on every radio station at the same time.

Why they're the best: They're not a one-trick pony. Their song "Stubborn Love" is just as karaoke-able as "Ho Hey," if not more.

quicklist: 2title: Hunter Hayestext: The blond teen country/popstar who sings that song about holding your hand forever.

Why he's the best: For better or for worse, he's a young version of Michael Buble and a male Taylor Swift.

quicklist: 3title: Frank Oceantext: Wasn't he nominated as best new artist last year? I'm not mad at it though.

Why he's the best: Because "Thinking About You" was probably the best love ballad of 2012. His falsetto during the chorus, "Or do you not think so far ahead? Because I've thinking about forever," could make anyone cry.

quicklist: 4title: Fun.text: That band that sounds like Queen but isn't.

Why they're the best: "Some Nights" is definitely the best song to listen to in a car full of your friends since Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Try not singing the "anymooooooooore" part. I dare you.

quicklist: 5title: Alabama Shakestext: Kinda sounds like the Black Keys but with more soul and less overplayed radio airtime.

Why they're the best: Singer Brittany Howardbluesy, powerful voice is a mix of Janis Joplin , Nina Simone, and Muddy Waters... 3 amazing singers into 1 Hell of a Woman.
