Michelle Obama to guest star on final season of 'Black-ish'
"Black-ish" is welcoming a real-life icon for its final season.
The show announced Thursday via social media that former first lady Michelle Obama will be making a guest appearance on season 8 of the ABC comedy.
"#blackish is going all out for the final season! We are honored to have trailblazer @michelleobama join us as an upcoming guest star," the statement said alongside a photo of Obama with the "Black-ish" cast.
While there are few details about her appearance, this isn't the first time Obama has appeared on a popular sitcom. She also guest starred on the season 6 finale of "Parks and Recreation" in 2014.
Series star Tracee Ellis Ross, who plays Dr. Rainbow "Bow" Johnson on the show, did open up about the end of "Black-ish" in a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, saying it will be a bittersweet moment for her when it's over.
“I’m ready for it to be the end and also it’s going to be really hard. I mean, eight years we’ve watched the TV kids grow up. We’ve watched [Anthony Anderson’s] beard do tons of different things,” she said.
"But also, I found my voice," Ross, 49, continued. "It came before, but I really started using it during 'black-ish.'"
"Black-ish" premiered in 2014 and has earned an Emmy. Ross won a Golden Globe in 2017 for her work on the show and, in doing so, she became the first Black actress to win best actress in a TV comedy since Debbie Allen won for "Fame" in 1983.
