Met Gala 2025: LeBron James' wife shines solo in glam carpet look
LeBron James may have benched himself ahead of this year's Met Gala, but his wife played to win at the star-studded event.
Savannah James hit the Met Gala carpet solo on Monday night in a tailored, burgundy pin-striped look aligned with the night's theme -- "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" -- and dress code, "Tailored for You."
The stunning Hanifa look featured a corset bodice and classic suit elements.
On Instagram, Hanifa designer Anifa Mvuemba wrote, "Thank you, Savannah, for seeing me and trusting Hanifa to create your Met Gala look. You will forever be THAT woman."
LeBron James, who was an honorary chair of this year's Met Gala, announced earlier Monday in a post on X that he wouldn't be attending the event due to a knee injury.
"Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won't be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!" he wrote.
He added, "Hate to miss an historical event!"
He ended his message by saying that his wife would be there to represent him.
"My beautiful and powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!" he wrote.
During Game 5 of the NBA Western Conference first-round playoff series on April 30, LeBron James, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, subbed out after Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo collided with his left knee on the court, according to ESPN.
The star small forward had his knee examined but returned to the court to play the remainder of the game.
The following day, an MRI revealed that LeBron James had suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee, according to ESPN.
LeBron James was announced an honorary co-chair for the 2025 Met Gala in October 2024.
At the time, Vogue also announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour as co-chairs.
In an Instagram post, Vogue described this year's theme as "examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora" with the Black dandy as its subject.
The dress code, "Tailored for You," is "a nod to the exhibition's focus on suiting and menswear, from specific silhouettes to various fabrics and accessories -- that is purposefully designed to both provide guidance and invite creative interpretation," according to a press release.
