Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep came together for a special interview recently, ahead of the premiere of "The Devil Wears Prada 2."

Wintour, who served as Vogue's editor-in-chief from 1988 to 2025 -- she now serves as global chief content officer and artist director for Vogue's parent company, Condé Nast -- and Streep, who plays fictional magazine editor Miranda Priestly in the film, sat down for an interview with filmmaker Greta Gerwig for Vogue's May 2026 issue and talked about fashion and the upcoming sequel.

The duo also spoke about what it's like being grandmothers.

Streep, who said she has six grandchildren under the age of 6 years old, said she values the time she spends with all of them.

"It's the longest, shortest time. And you can't take anything back," she said. "So take as much as you can…. I find it divine."

She added, "I can't even talk about how much it means to me that my kids give me as much time as they do with their kids."

As a grandmother to four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, Wintour echoed Streep's perspective, saying, "I try to instill in my children and my grandchildren that it's family that counts and family who will give you love and support. If you have that, everything else will be fine."

Over the years, many believed that Streep's iconic "Devil Wears Prada" character, Miranda, was inspired by Wintour. While Lauren Weisberger, the author of the 2003 novel "The Devil Wears Prada," on which the original film is based, has not confirmed that this is the case, Wintour told Vogue that "it's such an honor to be played by Meryl, however distant Miranda is from myself."

Streep said that when she returned to play Miranda in "The Devil Wears Prada 2," Wintour was on her mind.

"In terms of Miranda, and coming back to that character 20 years later, I did think honestly about Anna and tried to imagine what it was like to carry her responsibility and to be as interested in the world and curious as she must have to be," Streep said. "That's the key, I think, to being alive: Always breaking new water. Always breaking the waves. And we're not done yet."

She added that "the thing that's fun about this character is that I was using my role models, different people that I know, and most of them are men."

"So that gave me some freedom too," she said.

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" arrives in theaters on May 1, 2026.

Vogue's May 2026 issue is available on newsstands nationwide on April 28.

20th Century Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News and "Good Morning America."
